This in-person, two-semester course is designed for students who have already partially completed level B1 and wish to consolidate and complete it within one semester. In the second semester, the course will continue towards level B2. Classes take place twice a week, on Monday and Wednesday mornings, and are taught by two qualified Czech teachers, each responsible for one day. Regular attendance on both days is expected, making the course fairly intensive – ideal for motivated learners who are ready to invest time and effort into reaching the B1 threshold quickly.
While the course does not directly prepare students for the Czech citizenship exam or an official B1-level certification, the materials and tasks are designed to thoroughly prepare students for communication at this level.
In the first semester, students will work on grammatical topics such as instrumental plural, interjections, passive voice, subjectless sentences, and expressing direction. Conversation topics and vocabulary will focus on the animal kingdom and weather.
The course uses a modern textbook with engaging texts, audio and video materials. Each unit includes a writing task which the teacher may assign. The accompanying workbook offers ample exercises to reinforce the material.
Classes are held at the Department of Language Studies, and the two teachers communicate closely and coordinate lesson content. Both instructors speak English and can explain selected language points if needed. Lessons are tailored to the professional needs of those working in science and research.
